We help children and families in Missouri, Kansas, and beyond live safer and healthier lives by providing the therapy, education, and tools they need to heal from trauma. As a foster parent, you will be compensated to meet the basic needs of your foster child.

How to Become a Foster Parent in Kansas
Becoming a foster parent in Kansas involves several steps to ensure the safety and well-being of children in need. Here is a quick overview of the process:

Who Can Become a Foster Parent? Kansas Foster Parent Criteria
To become a foster parent in Kansas, you must meet specific requirements. Before we explore those, let’s first clarify some common misconceptions about what isn’t actually required to become a foster parent.
- You can have any level of education.
- You don’t need to own your home; you can rent.
- Foster children do not need to have their own bedroom; they just need their own bed. (Bedrooms must be up to code, however. Bedrooms must have at least one outside window or door that can be opened from the inside).
- You can be single, in a partnership, or married.
- You can own a firearm but you must take precautions.
- You don’t need to cover the cost of healthcare for the children in your care; that is fully covered by the state.
- You don’t have to pay for daycare for children in your care; those costs are also covered for you.
Now let’s talk about the criteria you must meet:
- You must be at least 21 years old.
- Everyone living in your house above the age of 18 has must pass a background check.
- You must agree to use only non-physical forms of discipline.
- You must have reliable transportation.
- You must have a working phone.
