Bringing children safely home.
Sometimes children have to be removed from their family home to ensure their safety, but many have the goal of reunifying with their families as soon as it is safe to do so. By building on established family strengths, addressing areas of concern, and empowering positive family interactions, our Intensive Family Reunification Services (IFRS) program helps families achieve the goal of getting their children back home.
During this 8-12 week program, IFRS specialists spend 8-10 hours a week with the family in the home, providing strengths-focused trauma-informed interventions. By teaching problem-solving and life skills to de-stress the family’s daily lives, in addition to improving communication skills, relationships are strengthened as the household interacts in a healthier manner. IFRS specialists also support the family during the child’s transition home, addressing any issues that arise, teaching needed skills, and being accessible 24/7 to provide support. During the intervention, the family is connected to available community resources so they have ongoing support and are able to access what they need for the future.
Families Receive
- Access to a strengths-based, trauma-informed specialist with 24/7 program support.
- Assistance in transitioning the children back into the home.
- Individually customized interventions.
- Help improving problem-solving, parenting, budgeting, household/school management, communication, coping, and other life skills.
- Connections to community resources and ongoing supports.
Eligibility Requirements
- Families have been referred by a Missouri Children’s Division office.
- Families live in the 55 counties we serve.
- The safety concerns that brought the child into care have been resolved.
- The child has had regular contact with the family (visits).
- Both the family and children are willing to participate in services.
- Family Court agrees with the child returning home with IFRS.
