At Key Bank, generosity isn’t just a one-time event – it’s part of the team culture. Each year, employees at Key Bank support numerous charitable initiatives around Kansas City, including NASB’s North Pole, hosted by Cornerstones of Care. This annual effort spreads the joy of the holidays to over 1,000 youth and families through the Sponsor-A-Youth and Gift Gallery programs. This feat is only possible because of dedicated donors and volunteers like the incredible team at Key Bank.
Every November, Key Bank sets up a Christmas tree adorned with tags showcasing wish lists for foster youth in the Sponsor-A-Youth program. Employees eagerly pick tags, fill gift bags, and deliver them to Cornerstones of Care. Key Bank aims to sponsor 50 youth, delivering three gifts per child, ensuring no one is forgotten.
“The entire office chips in, and everyone is so excited to give back,” said Andrea Hicks, Insurance Specialist at Key Bank. Andrea has been instrumental in fostering the relationship between Key Bank and Cornerstones of Care. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Key Bank participated in Sponsor-A-Youth, shipping the gifts to Andrea’s home so no youth would miss out on the joy of receiving a gift.
“Andrea is a true rock star,” said Sally Cook, Director of Development. “She’s always the first to offer support, leading with heart and dedication. Her passion for helping others is felt through every drive and initiative Key Bank supports.”
Andrea’s connection to Cornerstones of Care began years ago while coaching with the Youth Football League. At the time, Gillis had a team in the league, and Andrea got to meet the coach and players and learn about the organization’s mission.
“I have a huge passion for kids,” said Andrea. “When we were looking for a cause to support, I said ‘Cornerstones of Care.’”
Andrea also participates in Key Bank’s employee groups, known as Key Business Impact and Networking Groups (KBINGS), and chairs the African Heritage KBING. In 2024, they collected over 5,000 hygiene products for children of color, ensuring that kids can access essential items suited to their skin and hair type needs.
Key Bank School Supplies Drive
Key Bank employees also host a school supply drive for Cornerstones of Care, volunteer for the Spirit Gala, and organize pizza parties for kids at the Ozanam and Gillis Campuses. Their commitment to giving back is a testament to their culture of generosity.
“You have to have a certain attitude and outlook to be a teammate at Key,” said Andrea. “We are very big on giving back. We call it our TRAIL – teamwork, respect, accountability, integrity, and leadership.”
Key Bank’s involvement with NASB North Pole is a prime example of these values in action. Employees not only donate gifts but also volunteer their time at the Gift Gallery, helping families pick out presents.
“Key Bank’s unwavering support for our youth is truly extraordinary,” said Sally. “Whether hosting back-to-school drives or delivering truckloads of gifts for our Gift Gallery, their generosity is like Santa arriving not just once, but multiple times a year!”
For Andrea and her team at Key Bank, these efforts are also deeply rewarding, building a sense of camaraderie within the team while deepening connections in the community.
“It’s humbling to shop with these families who are less fortunate,” said Andrea. “It makes you appreciate what you have. I grew up believing that it takes a village to raise kids, and if you have the time to volunteer and give back, why wouldn’t you?”
