A MESSAGE FROM MERIDETH

As summer approaches, life is in high gear on the Ozanam Campus. Youth who reside at Ozanam during the summer are looking forward to our upcoming Home Opener, a tradition that marks the beginning of warmer days, outdoor connection, and community. While the energy across campus is joyful, our teams are equally focused on the important work of strengthening and modernizing the campus infrastructure that supports youth healing and care.

As part of our Bridging the Future Capital Improvements Plan, we are raising funds to make critical improvements to the Ozanam Campus, a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) serving up to 50 residential youth and an additional 10 youth in temporary shelter placement while they await more permanent foster care arrangements. Since 2020, Missouri has lost nearly 20 percent of its residential treatment capacity, significantly limiting access to trauma-responsive care for youth in crisis.

The Bridging the Future plan is a three-year, $10.1 million effort to stabilize and strengthen the Ozanam Campus while also creating a unified Education Campus in south Kansas City at the former Archbishop O’Hara High School. The campaign addresses critical facility repairs, safety upgrades, and infrastructure investments necessary to sustain trauma-responsive residential and educational environments for years to come.

Originally opened in 1948, the Ozanam Campus includes buildings that are now between 30 and 60 years old and were constructed long before current life-safety codes, QRTP standards, and trauma-responsive design practices. These upgrades are essential to maintaining compliance, enhancing safety, and ensuring youth continue receiving the highest quality care possible.

Planned renovations will improve dormitories, therapeutic spaces, and campus infrastructure through projects that include roof replacement, stormwater mitigation, security enhancements, and ADA accessibility improvements.

An investment in the Ozanam Campus is an investment in safety, healing, and long-term stability for the youth we serve. Your support helps ensure that children in crisis continue to have access to safe, supportive, and trauma-responsive care environments well into the future.
