The CARE Awards celebrate the heart and soul of Cornerstones of Care. The individuals and teams who won the awards in 2024 were announced on June 23rd.
As part of a deeper look at this year’s CARE Award recipients, we’re spotlighting a few of the winners who shared more about their experiences, leadership philosophies, and what this recognition means to them.
As Merideth Rose, our Cornerstones of Care CEO, said:
“[The award winners] represent the best of who we are — showing up with compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence in every corner of our organization. Whether working directly with youth and families or supporting operations behind the scenes, these CARE Champions remind us what it means to lead with care.”
Let’s meet some of our winners.
Rachael, honored as a program champion, which is “an employee whose position and job-related work is in direct support of a Cornerstones of Care Program area,” believes her award stems from her genuine care for her team and those they serve. She explains:
“I truly care about my team and the children and families we serve. I have an amazing team who I am so incredibly proud of! It has been important to me to build a culture within my unit where we can rely on one another. [Work is] a safe space to show up and be authentically yourself. It takes time and trust to build that but it makes the biggest difference for myself and my team in showing up to work every day.”
Her leadership philosophy is rooted in empathy and partnership:
“Provide the care and support to your staff that you would want to receive. Have empathy—the work we do is often challenging and we all need a little grace sometimes. As a manager, I try to partner with my team and work with and not against. I don’t want team members to feel they are on an island doing this work, but that we are in this together and we will figure out whatever is in front of us.”
Those who work closely with Rachael echo this sentiment. Lisa Booth, who recently joined as a Family Centered Case Manager after years as a parent aide, shares:
“Rachael goes above and beyond for us all. I have been a part of many teams in my professional career, and I have NEVER felt more supported and valued than I have since coming to Cornerstones. Our jobs are tough, but she is always willing to be available even after hours. She is not just my direct supervisor, but she is also my friend and mentor. The work she does [doesn’t get] recognized nearly as much as it should.”
Rachael’s ability to foster a trusting and supportive environment ensures that her team is empowered to face daily challenges with resilience and heart.
Tiarra Anderson, our mission support champion, took on one of the most complex projects of the year: leading Cornerstones of Care’s transition from a longtime IT vendor to a new partner. She shares her advice for growth and leadership:
“Don’t be afraid to take risks, especially the kind that lead to positive change. Growth often comes from stepping into uncomfortable spaces, asking tough questions, and being open to learning along the way. Embracing change (even when it’s scary!) can open the door to new opportunities. And most importantly, find people who support you being your authentic self. It makes the journey a lot more meaningful.”
On why she believes she was chosen, Tiarra reflects:
“Last year, I led the process of transitioning away from our longtime IT vendor, a partner we had worked with for over a decade. It was one of the most challenging (and honestly, intimidating) projects I’ve taken on, but I knew the change was necessary to better support our team. The process wasn’t always smooth, and it definitely required me to step into a more assertive role to advocate for our needs. I think what stood out…was my willingness to lead through uncertainty, stay grounded in our mission, and make sure the people around me were supported throughout the transition.”
Her leadership was noticed by many. Sarah Scharinger praised Tiarra’s determination and care:
“Tiarra supported Cornerstones of Care’s team members in their desire to change IT vendors by creating a robust RFP in January 2024…Tiarra was courageous in navigating multiple hurdles through the transition. She never let challenges get in the way…There was a tight timeline for the transition and Tiarra made sure this was met. Tiarra handled this so well and we are very grateful to have her leading our IT services!”
Tiarra’s courage, vision, and commitment underscore how mission support roles are vital to the entire organization’s success.
Randi Webster, recognized as a program champion, believes that making a difference is often about consistent presence and thoughtful collaboration.
“Making a difference doesn’t always mean doing something big—it often starts with being present, consistent, and willing to pitch in where it matters most. Stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, and be the kind of teammate who lifts others up. Small efforts build trust, and trust creates the kind of culture where people and ideas can thrive.”
She reflects on why she was nominated:
“I believe I was nominated because a fellow ECC [Employee Connections Committee] member saw my commitment to thinking outside the box and creating connection through communication efforts, employee engagement initiatives, and behind-the-scenes support that helps others shine. I care deeply about people and want our teams to feel supported and seen. I try to show up with authenticity, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to help even when no one’s watching.”
Her contributions as the ECC’s Cultivation Subcommittee Chair have already left a lasting mark. Sheila Rancatore shares:
“Randi went above and beyond this quarter in her role as the ECC’s Cultivation Subcommittee Chair. She worked with leadership and IT to develop a new way of engaging with team members across the organization. Viva Engage has been a success and Randi is the one who figured out how to post, put links into emails and then responded to people’s posts. This will have lasting impact as we use Viva Engage in new and different ways in the coming months. Thanks to Randi for thinking outside of the box and asking to do something different!”
Through her thoughtful efforts, Randi demonstrates how innovation and consistent care build strong community bonds.
These stories reflect just a few of the inspiring examples from our 2024 CARE Award winners, a testament to the remarkable dedication across our entire organization. Every winner — whether working directly with clients or behind the scenes — models what it means to be a CARE Champion.
As Merideth Rose reminds us, “Your contributions have left an undeniable mark — inspiring colleagues, uplifting our clients, and demonstrating extraordinary commitment in challenging times.” We are proud to celebrate the outstanding individuals and teams who won the awards in 2024 and are grateful for the culture of care they foster.
